Lily Allen has shared why she had to part ways with her dog after it caused quite a mess at her family residence.
The ‘Smile’ singer found herself in a tough spot when her pet chewed up her passport along with those of her children, Ethel, 12, and Marnie, 11. This passport fiasco led to her daughters, who live in New York with Lily and her husband, being stranded in the U.S. and unable to visit their father in London for a long four to five months.
Speaking on her Miss Me? podcast with her close friend Miquita Oliver, Lily revealed: “We actually did adopt a dog already, but then it ate my passport and so I took her back to the home.”
“She ate all three of our passports and they had our visas in. And I cannot tell you how much money it cost me to get everything replaced, because it was Covid so it was just an absolute logistical nightmare.”
“And because the father of my children lives in England, I couldn’t take them back to see their dad for like four months, five months, because this f***ing dog had eaten the passports.”
“And I just couldn’t look at her. I was like ‘You’ve ruined my life’.” The singer also talked about why she still uses her ex-husband’s last name, even though she and Cooper divorced four years ago.”
She continued: “I still have my ex-husband’s name because I’ve got two children with the man, and it’s hard to travel with children if you haven’t got the same surname.”
Recently, Lily Allen opened up about feeling deeply saddened after being separated from her daughters for two months. She admitted to having a long crying session for “90 minutes” after sending her girls off to summer camp.
During her Miss Me? podcast with Miquita Oliver in July, Lily talked about her daughters returning to the U.S. for camp, which meant they wouldn’t be able to speak on the phone for a whole month.
She shared: “We dropped the kids off, and it was wonderful. It was such a sweet moment, and I’m really happy that we got them there on time.”
Then, Lily was hit by a wave of emotions. Miquita, surprised by her friend’s tearful reaction, let listeners know that this wasn’t typical for Lily and quickly tried to comfort her.
Lily thought her emotional outburst was due to a mix of difficult farewells, chaotic travel issues, and the worry that she might not get her children to the U.S. in time, leaving her feeling completely “discombobulated.”
She reflected: “I was like [to David], ‘I was so mean to them, I was so snappy, I didn’t cuddle them for long enough’. They don’t have phones, I can’t speak to them for a month, so they are gone.”
“The only way we can stay in touch is through letters, so no phone calls for us,” she continued. Even as Miquita tried to encourage her to focus on the positives, Lily admitted: “It will be good, and it was really transformative for them last year, so I know they’ll have a great time. I’m sure they’ll enjoy it.”
