As she gets about to be arrested at the airport following her flight to Turkey, Katie Price said she was being “treated like a criminal.”
The mother of five had an arrest warrant issued for her after she missed her most recent bankruptcy court. The former beauty model was scheduled to answer questions on Tuesday, July 30, in London over her financial situation.
Pricey’s unpaid tax debt totaling more than £750k led to the company’s declaration of bankruptcy in both November 2019 and March of this year. The celebrity was informed that if she missed the most recent court date, she would be subject to an arrest warrant.
Now that she is going to be jailed, the reality star has come out and pleaded with the police to treat her and her son Harvey with “dignity.” After coming back to the UK from Turkey, she shared her anxieties on Instagram.
In a lengthy statement, she wrote: “I would just like to thank everyone that has been showing support and compassion to my situation this week with my pending arrest. Despite what has been misreported, I am now in route back from filming my documentary.”
The TV star was said to have visited Turkey, and an Instagram Story that has since been removed saw her consuming a sandwich while on a flight. JJ Slater, star of Married At First Sight UK, who is her boyfriend, posted a picture of himself inside a five-star hotel in Turkey.
After that, she took a plane to Turkey for a rumored £10,000 facelift. She was seen showing up at the clinic wearing a Louis Vuitton purse, leopard print tracksuit bottoms, and a white crop top. Later, pictures of her showed her before the procedure in a surgical gown.
At the time, Katie posted the graphic images of the treatment on Instagram. The actress stated that she took a plane to Turkey to work on a project that was coming up.
She argued: “I was never just abroad being ignorant to what’s going on and I stand by the facts, which is that there have been miscommunications here between a number of people here to do with my bankruptcy.”
“However now I am returning home from work, & I am aware that I am about to be detained at the airport which is obviously what the courts feel is necessary. I do hope of course for my son’s sake who is with me that they will allow some dignity and protection for at least his sake as this will be extremely disturbing for him to see.”
“Whilst I understand the importance and severity of the matter, I do feel like I am being treated like a criminal.” She continued by pleading with internet bullies to stop bothering her while disclosing how she ended up filing for bankruptcy a second time in March.
Katie continued: “I would like to point out once again that this is to do with a very uncomfortable financial circumstance which as hard as it has been does not make a [me] a criminal or a bad person.”
“Millions of people suffer losses and go through bankruptcy’s, through many different reasons and mine was due to serious mental health issues and breakdowns from PTSD. Whilst it’s been hard, I repeatedly will stand by the fact I am not embarrassed or ashamed that this has happened to me.”
“People lose their lives every day over the embarrassment and fear of these situations and the public bullying I’ve endured on this matter is simply just not ok. I will continue to speak out on this and not be ashamed.”
The Celebrity Big Brother winner added: “I have and am continuing to pay back debtors as ordered by the court. I will address this with the police and courts when I land and I ask for my son Harvey’s sake it’s handled with care and compassion.”
“I am after all only a human being. I appreciate all of you that continue to show me love, it means a lot. Kate.”
Judge Catherine Burton of the Insolvency and Companies Court disclosed that Katie was given “very clear warnings” to appear at the hearing. At a prior hearing, a judge issued a warning to the TV celebrity, stating that if she failed to appear, she would need to present convincing documentation of her absence.
Katie used her Instagram Stories to give her admirers an explanation when she failed to show up. She stated: “I have to continue my work in order to satisfy these bankruptcy orders which is all I am trying to do right now.”
