Police in New Mexico have determined the cause of death for 26-year-old Sophia Leone after she was found deceased in her home.
Originally from Miami, Florida, Leone was discovered ‘unresponsive’ in her Albuquerque apartment on March 1.
She gained prominence in the adult film industry starting in 2014 and appeared in many scenes throughout her career.
Her stepfather, Mike Romero, announced her death at the time on a fundraising page, stating: “It is with a heavy heart that I have to share the news of our beloved Sophia’s passing.
“The sudden loss of Sophia has left her family and friends devastated and in shock.”
Initially, police labeled Leone’s death as ‘suspicious’, though there were no signs of trauma on her body.
Recently, police updated that her death was indeed accidental.
Authorities in Albuquerque informed TMZ that Leone died from an accidental overdose, although the specific substances involved remain unclear.
In his tribute, Romero remembered Leone as a ‘beloved Daughter, Sister, Grand Daughter, Niece, and Friend’.
“She had a deep love for all animals, specifically her 3 pets. She enjoyed traveling and always found ways to make everyone around her smile,” he shared.
Leone’s former modeling agency, 101 Modeling based in Los Angeles, shared their grief over her passing in a statement.
“Our hearts are broken by the untimely and tragic passing of our beloved Sophia Leone,” the agency posted on Twitter. “A beautiful spirit who touched many of us. RIP sweet angel and know how much we loved you.”
Fellow adult film star Riley Jean also expressed her condolences, writing: “I’m so f***ing sorry to anyone who knew Sophia. Her and I interacted with each other a handful of times but we were never super close.”
“If anybody needs someone to talk to please feel free to send me a message. This is a hard time for all of us,” she added.
