Bryce Dallas Howard shared that she received a much lower salary compared to Chris Pratt for their roles in the Jurassic World trilogy.
Back in 2015, Bryce played the character Claire Dearing in the first movie of the series, which revitalized the almost forgotten Jurassic Park franchise.
She appeared alongside Chris Pratt, who took on the main role of Owen Grady.
Although they both co-led the next two movies, it was later revealed that Chris received a significantly higher salary than Bryce.
When the second film, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, hit theaters in 2018, it was reported that Bryce was paid $8 million, while Chris earned $10 million.
However, Bryce later revealed to Business Insider that these reports didn’t capture the full picture.
“The reports were so interesting because I was paid so much less than the reports even said, so much less,” she revealed.
This pay gap also extended to the 2022 installment, Jurassic World Dominion, which earned over $1 billion globally, making it the third highest-grossing film of that year.
Even with the movie’s huge success, Bryce was still paid less than Chris because she had signed a three-movie contract back in 2014.
She explained, “”When I started negotiating for Jurassic, it was 2014, and it was a different world, and I was at a great disadvantage.”
“And, unfortunately, you have to sign up for three movies, and so your deals are set.”
Bryce did bring up the pay disparity with Chris, and he took action to support her.
He pushed for her to receive equal pay in other earning opportunities that weren’t restricted by her original contract.
Bryce added, “What I will say is that Chris and I have discussed it, and whenever there was an opportunity to move the needle on stuff that hadn’t been already negotiated, like a game or a ride, he literally told me: ‘You guys don’t even have to do anything.”
‘I’m gonna do all the negotiating. We’re gonna be paid the same, and you don’t have to think about this, Bryce.'”
She expressed her appreciation, saying, “I love him so much for doing that. I really do, because I’ve been paid more for those kinds of things than I ever was for the movie.”
Unfortunately, Bryce’s situation isn’t a rare instance of pay inequality in Hollywood.
Kirsten Dunst also shared that she was paid significantly less than Tobey Maguire for their 2004 film Spider-Man 2.
Maguire reportedly made around $17 million (or possibly even more, according to Dunst) to reprise his role as Peter Parker, while she was paid $7 million.
